Does he call this character "Jules?"  If not then you are stating a 
half-truth (and one with no point behind it).  I don't think there's any 
mention of this character's first name except that HIS roomate starts 
calling him "Stephen" for his Jesuit nature, an OBVIOUS reference to Joyce's 
Ulysses.  The point is clearly what Terrance has already stated:  Seigel is 
half and half Jewish-Catholic, just like Profane later to come.  In fact, 
this whole story is a (very lame) precusor of "V."
