Thanks for the adult perspective, Paul.

The notion that the U.S. government would actually be
overthrown was never taken seriously, except perhaps
by a tiny number of people within the Movement and a
few more in
the government.  

There were more than a few people, back then as
now, who found Communists hiding under beds, in
closets, and just about everywhere else. My personal
favorite, when I
was a high school student in the 60s, was the local
John Birch Society rep who explained, with a straight
face and just a wee bit of hyperventilating, how The
Beatles' lyrics followed the Party line straight out
of Moscow.
