One of the SDS founders Paul Booth, whose father I knew and worked 
with,  never got caught up in the violence, never
had to go into hiding.  He did  remain in "The Movement" and is still 
doing something in Chicago. Exposing Exxon-Mobil and
such things.   I googled him.

Another reason an over age person like me followed these events
with some assiduousness was because a good friend was a staff writer for
the Guardian Newspaper(New York, not UK). He wrote the papers's first story on the
New Left and that remained one of his main beats for years.
