And they're left unread, or stacked in boxes in some depository
somewhere, while the real history is being made in the street 
below, as it's being captured on video, or it's digital offspring.

Whether you subscribe to Herodotus or prefer a Thucydidean filter,
history is what the prevailing media is best able to market. If it
doesn't move the sponsors product, it's forgotten, until some
young marketing genius can figure a new way to package it, or,
finds a rich vein running through the social fabric that can be
exploited, a niche. Angst, frustration, anger, tragedy of any stripe-
whatever gets the gastric juices of the human-spud hybrid flowing,
and doesn't disrupt the couch. Maybe that's as it should be. Too
much history can have unpredictable side effects.
