that could fund the evolution of cheap stag movies
into glitzy porno feature films, which was well
underway by 1980. Organized crime involvement -- folks
like VL's Wavy One -- in the porno business as it has
developed since that time is well documented.

Another of Pynchon's hints of "other hugely important
trends sitting just outside the tubal glow of VL" is a
 specific mention of George Bush in a direct reference
to folk wisdom (since corroborated by investigative
journalists) re the CIA's role in illegal drugs
trafficking.
