Dear Mr. Gentle

no, as far as the contradictory articles in the newspapers are right, there
will be no swastikas in it. And so it'll not be forbidden. The author Thor
Kunkel or whatever his name is has found a new publishing house, Eichborn in
Frankfurt.
He and his editor will find ways to take the offensive parts out of it. No,
it seems it's more a question of good and bad taste - as the newspapers say.
The book will have Pynchonian length, according to the newspapers 700 to 1000
pages, and a Pynchonian title: "Endstufe", which means (among other meanings):
The last stage of a rocket. If Mr. Kunkel knows P. I don't know. But you can
assume it. I think Mr Kunkel sees himself as a kind of German Houellebecq, a
glutton for scandal, we say "Skandalnudel". The book will be published in
April, Mr. Kunkel hopes. That's all what I can say about it.
