So why, other than the pretentiousness of it, is Frenesi wearing Neutral
Density (ND) filters?

The narrator is describing fashion here. Frenesi is just starting to
dig, um, that is,
"find endearing," sandals and argyle sox. (VL.243)

Her Second Revolution has just begun.

The night of the Big Cheer, is Moonless. Frenesi ain't the astrologer in
the crew, she misreads Brock, her "inconstant moon" is moving in another
orbit. The college, lit up like a Stadium with Hub's Bute, but it's all
theater, Weed has left the building, Eliot X's performance was
brilliant, Brock steps up to the microphones, a star.

she will wind up working in a gas station or a mall or some other low
paying service job. And the women in her life? Jinx and DL could never
be lovers. Prairie will not be aborted, only abandoned. Her mother will
sell the house. Yeah, the power of the pussy.
