Berkeley at this time was already a hard place to get into and for out
of staters not exactly cheap. Though there could be exceptions, by and
large the more impecunious scholarship kids had to devote themselves to
keeping their grades up in order to maintain their grants rather than
get involved in radical politics. The later was more the preserve of the
privileged.
Danish and sangria of course had nothing to do with any of it.
Dizah's ex, Feldman, must have been high up enough on the socio-economic
ladder to leave her head financially above water with a nice house in
the San Fernando Valley. This didn't happen to working class ex-es.
