This all sound so very strange, shocking,  to us over in America. BTW,
not all of the females who choose to wear head-scarfs in our schools are
Muslims. 

A few weeks ago,  thousands of kids came to our school and took our
entrance exam. 

Well, needless to say, there were lots of young girls wearing
head-scarfs at the exam. The scarfs were white, gray, black, blue, some
were ornate and multi-colored. Some kids prayed between test sections.
Some held onto beads, some fondled  stuffed toys, others  rubbed their
lucky wrist watches ...  opened and closed the lids of their magic
pencil boxes. 

It's a very tough exam. Some of the kids got sick.  There are only
handful of public schools like ours in NYC.  Families have been known to
pack up and move to another state after  a child "fails" the exam.
