Hello,

Vineland NJ is also the location of the "remobilization farm" where the
"Black Doctor" treats the protagonist Jake Horner with "Mythotherapy"
in John Barth's _The End of the Road_. Dirk Vanderbeke (of Greifswald)
has written a comparative essay on the Vinelands of TRP and JB:

and the great Bonnie Surfus brought up the Barth reference on the p-list,
I guess it was in 1994 (later on, she took her hubby's last name which I
have forgotten - perhaps actively, as I personally happen to like it
better when women keep their last names when they marry).
