Just a clarification: I never stated or suggested that Zipi comes from a
poor family. I have been responding to the notion that the Pisks come from a
privileged background and have "Jewish princess" attitudes. I have
repeatedly indicated that most or all of the
passages being used to support that notion might be better understood as
signifying New Yorker
pride and something approximating a middle-class Jewish background.

Regarding the breakfast pastry known as Danish, jbor also wrote: "It's
misleading to assert that it is only or typically a
pauper's food." For the record, no one on this listserv has made such an
absurd
assertion.
