Reminds me ...

Smith, Kyle. "'Serving Interests Invisible':
Mason & Dixon, British Spy Fiction, and the
   Specters of Imperialism." Thomas Pynchon:
Reading from the Margins. Ed. Niran Abbas.
Madison, NJ: Fairleigh Dickinson UP, 2003.

And recall the hijinks of the
now-a-major-motion-picture Casino Royale (1967) ...

And I for one miss the Cold War. Can't make a decent
spy flick without the Soviets, or some simulacrum
thereof (S.M.E.R.S.H., S.P.E.C.T.R.E.). Look at the
Pierce Brosnan Bond films, Goldeneye's the best of the
lot, and it of course features unrepentent Soviets
(vs. Russians). I hear they Broccoli organization
might FINALLY be taking my suggestion that they line
up Clive Owen as the next Bond. Now if only they'd go
all the way and do a straight (albeit Connery-era
styled) adaptation of Casino Royale ...
