Another irony. The focus of the student rebels is getting the police off
campus (and Pynchon has a lot of fun with the names and acronyms of these
silly student action groups) but the reason the police were there in the
first place is because "several" of the students "went off to phone the
police" when things got out of hand between marijuana smokers and students
who were anti-marijuana (206). And, cf. also that there are "student
antidrug activists" who are "working under contract to CAMP" (221)

I imagine that, along with Rex, those "traveling Movement co-ordinators"
were the ones organising the ADHOC "Steering Committee meeting".
