Vato & Blood, Ortho Bob, RC, are allegorical figures.
V&B
Yeah, they are cartoon-funny guys. They are Takeshi-like in that they
have some sort of immunity that gives them access to the upper and under
worlds and to information about matters other-worldly. Like Takeshi,
they work with and for the Thanatoids, they provide, Insurance,
Towing, Assistance, things others can't or won't provide. Their latent
immunity (the boys have an Urban Magic that is akin to the Native
American magic of the Vineland area Indians), or whatever it is (in GR
terms, their Freakish Gift), is conferred after they "survive" a fire
fight in Vietnam, after a General's decision to use Disney Cartoons in
Vietnam, and after they accept responsibility for Tah Anh Tran.
Key allegorical figures in this novel, they will take Brock Vond into
the Underworld.
Ortho Bob, like Vato and Blood, is a kid. He can't grow up because he's
dead and he can't move out of Thanatoid Village because he wants
revenge.
RC is alive. He's an enigma. Maybe in the next novel he'll say something
like, Hmmmm, Juicy Fruit.
