As are most names in this novel, it is indeed cartoonish.  For me at least,
Kommandant Bopp reminds me of "Commander Blop," the officious "Navy guy"
date of Lillian Simmons that Holden Caulfield meets at Ernie's in _The
Catcher in the Rye_ (pp. 86-7).  "Bopp" also suggests the jazz stylings
often alluded to in P's texts as well.
