I thought it was the strongest episode of the season, with or without
Pynchon! I mean -- how can you beat that bit inside Lisa's head? And Homer:
"Ahhh, now the beautiful time between the lie and when it's found out."

And like Toby, I wondered how the average, Non-Pynchon nutty viewer greeted
the scene! Probably as just another bizarre, inscrutable appearance. But
then again, other Simpsons guests include Robert Pinsky, Jasper Johns, Sonic
Youth, Steven Hawking, and George Plimpton...
