A short time after Rudd returned from Cuba he led an uprising at
Columbia University in April 1968, which caused property damage in
excess of one-half million dollars. The takeover of Columbia University
was the first major incident involving the use of violence by SDS to
accomplish its objective. 

SDS Traveling Organization

Being removed from the daily experience and problems of campus
organizing distorted one's viewpoint, and an organizer who does no
analysis does not understand the problems of his constituency and can
not serve it. The traveling organizer, who posted literature, made and
showed films and who helped set up meetings and politically strengthened
campus chapters, should be aware of the problems on the campus.
