Maybe it's melodramatic, but the subsequent shot of Kim Hunter descending
the staircase to embrace Stanley was (and still is) one steamy scene!

The character of Kurtz is enigmatic, and his lines are certainly compelling.
The additional footage added to the Redux release (reading a Newsweek
article to imprisoned Willard) adds dimension to his characterization.  But
I see nothing special in his actual performance.  It's mostly melancholy and
shadows.
