Without opening the novel (to find specific cites) but
calling upon multiple readings of it all the same:  

the spectrum, range, everything, analog and digital, 0
and 1 and everything in-between, all that falls within
the influence of Mother Earth; and, by marking a
boundary zone, everything outside that influence.
