Pynchon and Kubrick and Hitchcock

There I was, slaving over the Hitchcock connection to Eyes Wide Shut, when
Mark scooped me.
Way to go, bro. Anyway...

The notion that Kubrick was nodding to Pynchon with the Glen Cove
sign in Eyes Wide Shut is likely to be a MacGuffin: If there is an allusion,
it is more likely to be to a key sequence in Alfred Hitchcock's North by
Northwest that involves a trip to an estate in Glen Cove. At least that
movie's idea of Glen Cove. The mansion was actually at beautiful Old
Westbury Gardens.

"Has anyone mentioned this before? Tom Cruise's character goes out to the
orgy mansion located in Glen Cove (I think there's a shot of the exit
sign)-a reference to the Townsend estate, located in Glen Cove, in that
other conspiracy movie, North by Northwest?

"The finished product is parts Last Tango in Paris and Rosemary's Baby.
(There is a bit of North by Northwest too but I do not want to taint that
terrific film with the likes of Eyes.)"
