[...] Right in the wake of the media maelstrom and
worldwide popular
fascination with "The Da Vinci Code" and Mel Gibson's
"The Passion of
the Christ" comes a new brand of opportunism: a small
company is
trying to sell the rights to what it claims is a
unique database of
114,800 individuals worldwide who may be blood-related
to Jesus
Christ.

That's right: Millisecond Publishing Co., a two-person
company
headquartered in Kamuela, Hawaii, tried selling the
exclusive
publishing rights to this database on eBay earlier
this month. It got
no bidders at all, conceded Bruce Harrison, president
of Millisecond.
"But soon we'll be posting it again," he said. "And
this time we're
going to try to make people more aware of it, and
maybe even offer
review copies."

Almost 5,000 people visited the eBay entry about the
database, he told
BookLine. And Harrison claims that the initial snub on
eBay, in fact,
"just told us that people don't understand what this
is. In the right
hands, to someone who knows how to use it, this should
be worth six to
even seven figures."

Apparently, it's relatively common knowledge in the
genealogical field
that there are many, many documented ancestral strings
that trace back
from modern humans to Jesus--even without avowing
belief in the thesis
of "The Da Vinci Code" that Jesus married Mary
Magdalene, settled in
France and sired a family. The actual connections,
Harrison said, came
through Jesus's brother, James the Just.

Those with distant family ties to Jesus include,
according to
Harrison, celebrities such as Johnny Carson, Humphrey
Bogart, Marilyn
Monroe and Michael Douglas. These connections to Jesus
Christ are just
a fraction of what's available by tapping into the
voluminous research
on family trees that Millisecond has done and
publishes under the
moniker FamilyForest.com.

Harrison believes that among the savvy operatives who
should be
interested in his database are Gibson; Ron Howard, who
is producing
the "Da Vinci Code" movie; and other publishers and
movie producers.
And in case they don't eventually bite on his list of
Jesus Christ's
relatives, Harrison said, he's also got data showing
descendants of
many of the best-known Catholic saints. --Dale Buss
