A few years back a local character, friend of housemates, knowing I was an
occasional stargazer, gave me a solar viewer he'd made - just a conical box
with a low power lens in the apex and a viewing surface in the base.

Finally today it got the use it's been waiting for. With me playing both
M&D and Pendle Hill standing in for the Table Mountain it was historical
re-enactment time. Once I'd sorted out which Venus, and which the sunspot I
was fine, though occasionally confused as to which character I was supposed
to be.
Actually it was a busy day on the veg patch - hoeing, raking, stopping for
a drink and an ob - nothing scientific - just 'hey look it has moved'. Like
someone once said on seeing Saturn for the first time - 'it really has got
rings!'

Take care y'all

Mike
