I am in the middle of Gravity's Rainbow with mixed response.  Also reading a provocotive tonic  to the desolate politics of endless war, Mountains Beyond Mountains, by Tracy Kidder. It's an account of Paul Farmer who spends 8 months a year running a medical clinic in the mountains of Haiti. His  accomplishments are an amazing demonstration of an ethic of healing and service.
