I might be too busy (indeed I am) to devote time to this undoubtedly 
interesting matter. My intention is to discuss the matter when I'll 
have enough time to read those pages you specified in your message 
and see if your evidence is persuasive; I might well be persuaded by 
it, who knows. Now what worries me is that it is unclear whether your 
intention is a literary discussion or a Western-like duel which won't 
tell us who's the fastest gun (which might be interesting) but who's 
right, which, since we're dealing about Pynchon, is a rather risky 
business. I'm wrong, you're wrong, they're wrong--please! This is not 
a quiz show and the point is not being wrong or right, being the 
winner or the loser. Relax and let's discuss this next week. And 
remember: you won't win 1,000,000 dollars if you will discover who 
was the owner of the rifle.
