The shown parallels are highly superficial, and 
the audacious thesis that Dante was "perhaps the
greatest influence on Pynchon's writing" appears 
to be far fetched.

If Pynchon does admit anybody "as his [artistic.kfl]
spiritual double" it's probably not Dante yet Henry
Adams or, perhaps, Richard Farina ...
