So you don't realize that a foolish discussion about football is a
much less seroius matter than discussing Pynchon? Or better, you talk
about Pynchon the same way you talk about football? When I discuss
Pynchon I open the books and check on the text. And think. And take
notes. And check on other books. The works. That takes time. On the
other hand, to answer the blabbering of certain people about a sport
they probably don't know much about you don't need reference and
textual analysis. I hope you can tell the difference between the two
things, because discussing literature with someone who has a football-
fan attitude to it ain't easy.
And it wasn't the World Cup.
