As to what order:  interesting you should ask.  When
they first began appearing in English, a number of
reviews misstated the order in which they were written
-- mistaking their translation order with their order
of composition -- and recommended reading them
according to a false chronology.

Vertigo was translated last, but was the first book he wrote I believe

I don't think it matters, really.  I read the
Emigrants first.  It remains my slight favorite, but
that's more likely personal than any real comment on
their quality or the merits of any particular order. 
They're all very good.

agreed. You can read'em in any order--I read rings of Saturn first and
was quite enthralled

Two more books have been published since:  After
Nature, which I think predates the four above, and On
the Natural History of Destruction, which (I think)
was the last thing he wrote before his death.
