Murdered by Capitalism

John Ross did a well attended reading/booksigning last Friday night at the
bookstore where I work (he lived up here in Humboldt county through much of
the 70s and 80s...the same period Pynchon was here). He's an old beat kind
of guy, half blind, but he still has an energetic jazzy reading style. Given
his manic poetic sensibility and political and historical interests, its not
surprising Pynchon digs him. He's also written a few books on Mexico, where
he now lives, including 'War Against Oblivion' about the Zapatistas, and a
book of poems called 'Against Amnesia'.
