I've not read anything by Portis.  How would you rank the above against each 
other?  I always appreciate new reading suggestions from those whose 
opinions I respect.

I don't know him either.

BTW,  I recently read Oakley Hall's "Warlock," I think because it was 
recommended here (and Pynchon wrote a praising blurb for it - I should have 
known better to believe that one), and was disappointed.  The storey was OK, 
but the writing was flat.
