As someone who loves Don Quixote (in the translation by J.M. Cohen), I'm
always sorry to learn of readers disliking the book(s). Sure, there are
repetitions, but for many readers that's part of the DQ magic. I think
Borges touched on that.
A full decade passed between Book One and Book Two. During that time,
another writer knocked out a "sequel" to Don Quixote, possibly "inspiring"
Cervantes to buckle down and complete his own sequel. I got a kick out of
how Cervantes deals with the "fake book" in Book Two.
Ah well--the world's still going 'round.
