It's not possible to nail much of anything down about The Deal. We know
that Zoyd got a divorce and the deal on the same day. We don't know if
the Mental Disability check on Zoyd was added to the Contract and
Divorce by Hector, Brock, Frenesi, or even Sasha. Even though Zoyd tells
Sasha about the mental disability checks and she appears to be hearing
about this part of the deal for the first time, there is quite a lot of
evidence to suggest that she had a hand in it. We know that Frenesi
agreed to the terms of the deal and that  Hector acted as the liaison on
several occasions. We know that Sasha (Lefty) and Zoyd (Druggy) had to
agree to settle out of court because they  both feared loosing the child
to the State.  We know that Sasha tried to keep Zoyd as far away from
Prairie as she could in the infant years (Zoyd tried to run Frenesi and
Sasha over with their car in a fir of madness) and that Sasha allowed
Brock to visit Frenesi at her home after the child was born. Sasha tells
Zoyd that she is not a push-botton Lefty and that she would not put her
ideology ahead of her family, but her actions belie her claim. Sasha's
marriage fails largely because of her political fanaticism.  In fact,
the picnic scene exposes the fanatical ideology of the entire clan.
Notice that the text they read from is not about forgiveness, but
revenge. Lots of critics, misreading the allusion to James, have misread
the novel's ending. But I'll ge to that later ...  Sasha at the novel's
end, her boyfriends and fancy cars, her hypocrisy, her forcing Prairie
to recite the theme song from GI, etc., ....
