Howdy
Lot's of weight-control dietary advice in Pynchon, actually. See in
particular the "loathsom bloated loach" fish dinner in GR. You'll find
more in V ---- "the tails, when boiled, are most succulent---"

Sondheim's Sweeny Todd has some even better dietary advice, up to and
including "picking bones and rotten spuds out of alley ash-cans."
