I'm not a hundred percent sure what Paul Morrissey was referring to but
think it must have been self-destructive addictions such as dope taking
or overeating. He wasn't interested in any psychological or sociological
excuses behind the bad behavior of his characters. His solution, if it
were a question of solution, would have been for Joe to overcome his
habit by force of will. In order that Holly might be happy again.
But this also applied for him to the Warhol circle itself.
The Catholic morality of his upbringing.
Paul had that playfulness in him I think we also see in Umberto.
