While I'm somewhat amused by the irony of someone confessing to being
tickled and pleasuring himself yet unable to recognise the possible pun in
the Bach title 'Wachet Auf', I will admit that I'm at a loss as to the
significance of the scene on pp. 324-5. If the Thanatoids are experiencing a
unique, presumably happy, "resurrection" of some description then what is
the "long, desolate howling" which ensues? How is Takeshi connected, both in
respect of the sound chip he has had a hand in "expedit[ing]", and in terms
of he and DL "hav[ing] to respond" to what they hear on Radio Thanatoid? Is
it all just an excuse for a couple of bad puns and a zany non-resolution to
a correspondingly zany, but ultimately superficial sub-plot?
