"Pynchon a loon?"

Your post gave me the impression that you seemed to be unaware who this guy is, therefor I only passed the information who he is and what he has got to do with Pynchon. I've seen him talk in the Dubini Bros. film and together with Quail's and Tim Ware's appearance it's been one of the most interesting parts of the documentary.

Richard today has answered to my yesterday-e-mail asking him where the information in the article derives from.

He says that the information is from a friend, a TV reporter who has a son in the same class as Jackson. The guy had called Lane after watching the Dubini film. I'll quote the rest of his mail:

"BTW Pynchon was told by his landlady that the photographers had been looking for him. He spent the next week, "week" Pynchon's word, at the movies and the library. When they returned the next weekend, Pynchon took a hotel room and his landlady finally persuaded the pair that he had returned to the U.S. Upset by the experience, he left Mexico City. Source: Letter to Faith & Kirk Sale 9 March 1963

He never jumped out of a window. Wasn't that part of Water Kirn's article? And wasn't it Norman Mailer knocking on the door. More junk. I asked Mailer. They have never met."
