It is curious how many familiar overtones this whole prison
abuse story carries. Some motives are strikingly similar to GR's  
pavlovian theme. Ex: sexual conditioning of infant Slothrop
CNN even used term "conditioning of prisoners". Also,
special-access program mentioned in New Yorker article sounds
very much like SOE in GR.
