Frenesi knows her Cop TV. Hector does too. Couple of Tube Heads.
Hector's pitch is like most of the conservation is this book, Tube-talk.
It's cop TV and promotion, a high-pressure, crank the volume up and
blast her with Tube. Of course, it is delivered deadpan. Thanatoids are
good at deadpan and Hector and Frenesi are basically Thanantoids. As are
all the members of the 60s sick crew in this book. He can no more help
slipping into cop roles and scenarios than she can help try and figure
them out, identify them. Tube-Charades. On the one hand this is a
perfect partnership, they are dance partners, S&M lovers. He's a cop
and she can't resist men in uniform. He's a conservative
Mexican-American. She's a feminist liberal daughter of the Left. He's
a divorced Catholic. She thinks marriage is bondage, but she's married
and will stay that way. His problems with racism are no less real than
her problems with the old boys network. Solidarity indeed. I could go on
and on, the twists and turns are endless. The New left tried to bring in
Mexicans and Feminists and ... Give them credit for that. They tried to
bring a bunch of folks together and they had some success.
If I Had A Hammer.
