In Pynchonesque geography, the handiest place on earth to witness
the 2004 ToV is arguably Mauritius - the transit will start there
approx. at 9:20 AM and end approx. at 3:20 PM (Mauritius Time).
But Malta will have to do - approx. between 6:20 AM and 12:20 PM.
I've heard that the conference watch will take place at 9:30 AM,
when the morning star has just passed its midpoint over the sun.
But I may as well try waking up at six already...
