Indeed, Berger's essay is quite inventive.
VL is not about the 60's at all nor is it about biz vs 
labor.  The 60's-70's-80's that are in VL are not parody any 
more than the 30's-40's in GR are parodic or nostalgic although 
slight exaggerations abound.
