RICO, the "The Force of law", the failures of the left

My connection to this site bugs the shit out of me, but I keep putting words together We seem to be lit -criting the political, sociological, legal, philosophical issues of the 60's and 80's knowing now full well the terrifying results of the country's successful conversion/perversion/reversion to neoconservatism, as though we were not the creators and inheritors of this historic culture war. As though it is a thing of the past. Frenesi's seduction parrallels several neo-cons who wrote for the left( Norman Podhertz). It is the religious depth and persuasiveness of their conversion which is most stunning, but in the end it will be the trail of facts which will be most telling, just as for Frenesi the film she shot in the 60's will tell more truth and reveal more heroism than the bulk of her life. We all heard the neo-con rhetoric about freeing and democratizing Iraq. What a pilot project for the new american century, and now we are seeing the film footage, sieg heil.
Many contributors strongly resist the notion of an American "Police State", or words like fascism. They are strong words, not to be used lightly. Pynchon chooses to place the words periferally and in passing in the mouths of unheroic and flawed characters without much intellectual credentials, but he builds an elaborate and historically nuanced picture of the organizational and internal mechanisms of legal corruption, terror and seduction which array themselves with all the persuasiveness of a powerful, interdependent global empire against any small possibility of successful dissent, and even against the minor pleasures, taboo breaking, and re-imagining of culture that might lead to an alternative community, in short against the remnants of the american dream of personal freedom through balanced and humane self government. It seems to me that the paranoid excesses of this empire comically articulated in VL declare a vulnerabilty which may be overlooked and which may continue to seduce us individually and politically into inaction . This vulnerbility in many ways is further demonstrated by the clearheaded success of the American dissidents in anlyzing the the Iraq venture at its inception, uncovering its motives, elaborating its deceptions, predicting its failure and the probable cause and nature of its unraveling. The analyses and predictions were remakably coherent, cosistent and accurate. Part of this success is the left's increased willingness to acknowledge and integrate a greater diversity of sources of information and ideas, and on their pragmatic reliance on facts.. Far from being dead, the left looks damn near prescient in the last few years. The timidity and stupidity of the mainstream press and politicoes is glaring in contrast.

9-11 is the final fragment of the emperor's invisible ensemble, and Michael Moore is going to give it a serious tug with his new film. Of course he will be up against a mega milliondollar ad-campaign to convince us that the awol Shrub is really Winston Churchill.
Speaking of the RICO act(Dave Monroe 5-20), 9-11 widow Ellen Marioni refused to take the million dollar hush payment and is suing the administration as a conspiratorial Mob using the RICO act. She was on Amy Goodman Friday.
