377.6: "OK, have it your way, Brock," Roscoe hollered as the Huey started to rise, too loud for Brock to hear anymore, "but I can't guarantee you Ed Meese is gonna like it!" but by then he was gone, following his penis -- what else could it be? -- into the night clouds over Vineland."
Researching and sending these posts this week from my classroom computer, I am unable to locate anything on the psychological or symbolic implications of the "penis" because of our webnanny program here at school. Hell, I once got blocked because I was trying to order #2 pencils (the P, E, N, and S messed me up!). Sad state of affairs . . .
Regardless, this is an interesting passage in that it makes suggestions about Brock's characterization, his motivation, through an interpolation of the narrative voice asking a seemingly coy question.
Is Brock's motivation sexual? Is his penis merely a physical manifestation of some deeper weapon, some more profound desire?
Does the question reveal anything about the narrative voice?
And thanks in advance to anyone who wishes to post links related to any symbolism or literary significance to the aforementioned member.
