In all honesty, Toby, I find it odd that anyone would *not* consider
_Vineland_ a "left-wing novel," only because I see no evidence to the
contrary. In typical Pynchonesque style he skewers everything from the
"conservative" and the "liberal" alike, yet his authorial tone in numerous
passages definitely sympathizes with the dopers and common folk, and
displays a certain sarcasm and antagonism toward the beaurocrats and
corporate folk. _Vineland_ is most definitely a "left-wing novel."
