"Gino Baglione and the Paisans" = Gino Baloney...and the wise-guys/Italian countryboys....Billy Barf is a fake, playing out of a fake book written by "Deluze and Guattari"--who were, though perhaps some of the WASTE pheelosophers may correct me, French po-mo types..Are the wise guys and the "traditional wedding" fake too? That seems a sort of reasonable inference. Fake music being played by fake musicos at a fake wedding--though Two Ton is not-so-fake when he starts to strangle Billy with a gee-tar strap. Obviously the connotations of the entire scene here could be unraveled nearly endlessly, but I tend to see it as more or less as desperate musicians/losers/outsiders trying to fudge it in a wealthy bay area suburb--and there are plenty of wealthy conservative Italians in those bay area suburbs (and :LA as well) to be honest, regardless of the stereotypes.

Yeah, it's sort of slapsticky, but like most TP, a bit tragi-comic as well. Against the countercultural aspects (and I think hopes) represented in the novel, the mafia (like the rightwing cop characters such as Vond and Bopp) provides sort of a sinister Fellini-like backdrop--for all the hippy jive of Zoyd and the musicians and 24fps, there are very powerful figures such as the Guccione-like Wayvone and his henchmen who live in mansions on top of those pastoral Coast Range ridges; the connections between Wayvone Sr. and the yakuza-like Takeshi and feminist-badass- ninga DL also provide another contrast of violent quasi-criminal hustlers opposed to the foolish musician dupes....
