Post-modernist academics and literary hyenas who are now predictably and sentimentally venting about the elections and the Bush victory are nearly as obnoxious and misguided as the evangelical boneheads that voted in their stuttering redneck X-tian hero. Though they may have checked off the Kerry box, the narcissistic English or American Lit. graduate student type generally has little to no interest in real progressive or leftist political causes; instead of attacking Bush's economic policies, tax swindles, corporate welfare, Enron, energy issues, etc., the lit.creep writes little polite articles pointing out binary oppositions or "recontextualization" or "metahistorical romance"; instead of say becoming engaged with the CA greens and environmentalists who fought hard and lost against Prop. 64--a decisive victory for the corporate oligarchy which now doesn't have to worry much about consumer protection laws---UC lit. types have been spending some weeks mourning Derrida,
scribbling their pointless little book reports for the pointless little journals; instead of even "blogging" against the conservative hordes and neo-cons (as some decent writers did, such as "cyberpunks" Gibson and Sterling, and writers on Slate and Salon)--the academic literary types now are uttering their "ghastly" and "dreadful" before heading home to their cozy digs in Westside LA, Davis, Berkeley, San Jose, etc. while the Feds raid pirate radio stations, arrest Fresno and central valley leftists and anarchists at will, and real progressive sites/writers/activists such as at indymedia are being monitored by the CIA......
