This is quite a leap of logic.  The content of Pynchon's next novel has been 
rumoured for many years.  Characterizations of him as a recluse have been 
around since his first novels.  In fact his reclusiveness has become a 
cultural cliche, as evidenced by his "apperance" on the Simpsons.  This was 
the same cliche spoofed in the New Yorker cartoon.  Nothing new as far as I 
can see, so no reason to assume new rumours at the New Yorker.
