'Japan, creative masochism, and transnationality in Vineland'

During the first group reading of Vineland here, I
researched notes for the chapter with DL in Japan. 
Doesn't surprise me that Pynchon didn't go to Japan to
research the novel, the references were all readily
available in maps, guidebooks, etc. - the sort of
Baedeker research he talked about earlier in his
career.
