Who would you have banking the ad sales dollars? 

Like public executions, you'd just be whetting the
mob's appetite for more of the same.  Maybe the ad
sales could fund the wars and the circle would remain
complete.

Surprised to hear you criticize Mr. Pynchon for not
adding more blood and guts to Gravity's Rainbow - if
you'd read the novel, I wager you'd find it a tad more
anti-war in its overall impact than you suspect.
