"Whether he knew it or not, Anderson (former editor of Anderson Valley Adversier) , who used to drive a cab in San Francisco, had a talent for writing and a zeal for crusading. He took on school superintendents. He took on judges, and chronicled police brutality and all kinds of bureaucratic inanities.
"I am pretty combative. I'll admit that. I've always been the sort of person - I see it more as a character flaw - where if I'm told, 'Don't do that,' I'll actually take it to the next level," Anderson says.
The boycotts by locals came soon enough. His dislike of conservatives is outdone only by his dislike of liberals.
"The liberals are the worst," Anderson says with a deep laugh. "There's a huge gap between what they practice and what they preach."
"Asked to sum up the recent presidential election, Anderson, who supported Ralph Nader, says of John Kerry, "I think he's a totally artificial person. He didn't move me in any way. Ditto for Edwards. Ditto for all of them. Our democracy is so corrupt that it attracts the wrong type of people to it."

Anderson's disdain for the neo-liberal may be applied to the post-mod. academic lit. type who thinks his collection of Pynchon or the beats (and his IMAC, Dead-Marley CDs, birkenstocks, Ben and Jerry',s etc) provides him with some entitlement, some privileged perspective to assess those not as hip as himself. There are many who would fit Anderson's description of bogus liberals on p-list , but none more than P-Roid, Doogie Howser Millison, devoted to a sentimental and superficial do-goodism and a lit. analysis lite, which barely disguises his own thoroughly intellectually bankrupt and hypocritical nature.
Anderson perceives that neo-libs and neo cons are sort of the two facets of the McCarthyite party, and reading some of the whines and insults of the p-listers, one senses this as well: most of the wasteettes would be quite pleased to trade in their birkenstocks for jackboots, their dockers for jodpurs, their tie-dye for a blackshirt.....
