It's something John Krafft happened to mention to me in passing a couple of
days ago. You can check with him if you want to verify that the info I
posted above is accurate -- I'm sure it's no big deal. It's possible that
he's mistaken, but he seemed certain of the details when I pressed him for
clarification.

And, after checking the archives, I'm also quite certain that, until I sent
the news yesterday, there had been no information provided to the list
regarding phone calls made to and statements coming from Melanie Jackson's
office about the Playboy "interview".

I also believe that Scoop might be mistaken in his claim that last year he
posted info to the list to say that Pynchon's new book was scheduled to come
out in Fall 2005.
