NP - PSA After CAKE, does any other current music really matter?

The new CAKE album is out today....


On preliminary listen, I'd call it "Son of Fashion Nugget"...

No Phone is the finest piece of rock, composed and performed in the last 10 
years......in any dimension.


Opening with a guitar hook, influenced by that "chiming" Soweto sound 
(serially abused by the pedestrian 3-11),
so insistent that it can only be compared to a herpes virus lodging in your 
spinal ganglia, and surfing up and down its length
at its insidious leisure.....proceeds with a signature CAKE effect, implied 
funk, expressed, not by a discreet instrument, but rather,
by syncopation lacunae, which are filled by an urgent visceral reflex akin 
to petit mort........the simple electric piano layer leverages
your goose bumps to veritable epidermal tsunamis; you are about to pass out 
from delirium, when those mariachi funeral dirge horns
kick in and completely frost your cranium.....there be no shelter here, the 
funk is everywhere.....

John McCrea looks like he should be spraying shoes in a bowling alley - the 
man is a genius....
